PMG 458 Park Behaviour Summary from Article

INTRODUCTION

The study is all about type of human behavior at the park . Basically , it mean that the action and emotion into action in individuals itself which roughly can be said came from genetic inheritance, people’s perception , from surrounding cultural and social structural .

After all ,there are four article on type of human behavior in a park , all those research, case study and article that have been simplify into summary . The objective of this task is probably to enrich the knowledge about human behavior in a park . It does work like it was supposed to be , I do gain a lot of information by reading the all those article as they get a legit best data by the research that has been conducted in an area . The chosen articles are The Study of Human Behavior in Public Spaces , Human Interaction In Open Space , How Does A Child Act In A Theme Park and The Relationship Between Park Characteristics And Human Social Behavior . These four articles are related to one and another but it was fine as they are still in the sub topic of human behavior in a park .

As a conclusion , it was definitely the one of the best way to get extra information by reading and making summary of the article . All of these four article are really helpful and containing a lot of information about the human behavior in a park .

1)    Summary of  The Study of Human Behavior in Public Spaces

In this research , there is a main question which is follows with another three questions that for the public spaces users as to enrich the knowledge on how public spaces influence human behavior .

It was found that the relationship between human and public spaces came as it was use in their daily basis as they know that it improve the quality of life .

So , through the main question , it was found that the ambient and physical feature through our sensory in public space does affect people’s physical wellbeing and behavior because it was connected to human emotion , perception and cognitive process and physiology. Then the result of study of human behavior in relationship using our sensory with temperature ,sound ,smell and illumination .

First of all the human behavior towards the temperature of the space . Definitely it is does affect people because they are going to choose the best weather to go out because it also affect their mood either they are feeling comfortable and that will next affect how people function .

Next , how human behavior affected to sound of spaces . Sound are able to affect people’s concentration communication and interaction and how people act in a situation . Unpleasant noise in an environment are linked to negative vibe and less likely to see social interaction . While in the other side , a lovely music make people feel relaxed.

Then , how does smell affect human behavior . Smell is more likely to be the most sensitive but it is seen by sight then by smell itself . People can not stand in unpleasant smell so that their mood were affected . But on the positive side , pleasant smell can rcall the old memories.

Last but not least, is the study among the relationship between human behavior and illumination of space . The sunlight were believe to make people being impulsive behavior , so in a dark area people tend to feel more unsafety .

After the survey they found that people do understand it its important to have a well design space for economic benefits and they also found that people know the important environment not just for physically used but for emotion , psychologically  and brain connectivity .

2)    Summary Of  Human Interaction In Open Space

The research were conducted at Taman Tasik Shah Alam in order to get information about the relationship of human-human interaction and human nature interaction in open spaces area .The objective is to know the main reason people coming to the open space .

From the research , a human behavior can be seen in an open space area on how they are rating the questionnaire .

First of all , people come to an open space because of the design of the open space itself . Then , people come to the open space because of the natural and physical elements that can roughly seen the facilities provided of the open spaces and the sense of calmness and the positivity of the open space . More than that, in this research another survey on level of interaction were conducted . From the top they are coming to an open space for the purpose of recreational and play which obviously on spending free time doing activity for fitness , then coming to the people who came because of they want to have contact with nature of an area mean the nature elements provided satisfies their need , next  people are coming to an open space with a reasons of aesthetic preference of the area , then people coming to an open space to have a social interaction privacy among themselves and the last reason people rate coming to an open because of citizen participation of an event or program and because of sense of community like to strengthen the relationship might also for social interaction among them all because they feel the kind of responsibility in a community also the appreciation of the open space toward the level of interaction .

In the nut of shell , for a city to achieve the level called sustainability it must have a open space that can occupies and catered the demand of the community itself .

3)    Summary on How Does A Child Act In A Theme Park

A child is a human being too , hence they are also developing the human behavior in themselves too . The method that been used in this research are behavior maps ,cognitive maps and syntactic analysis of the physical setting .

Through the data , the most visited area by children in the cognitive maps is the Secret Agent Training Centre which offers them to have a full adventure time activity and like jumping and crawling a laser tunnel and more , while Construction Site and Hospital  be in the second place of most visited area which also have the same activity where provide them an enjoyment experience and Bank was the least visited activity area by the children because its looks very formal which mean to them it offer more on knowledge than fun activity . The cognitive map are based on their experiences in any activity of a certain area and their emotional reaction .Other than that children having a social attraction with some of the other kids to be in an activity area .

The second data is based on the children age from two group in relationship with the activity area that they are getting involve , a group of 6-8years old  and group of 8-12 years old in a concrete operational stage . Both group shows different result  where the goup of 6-8 age has visited a little less number of activity area than the 8-12 age group . Then , both group were asked to draw three  activity area and the result  show different activity area were drawn by both group . After all , children at the age 6-8 years old create a navigational properties of the park and children at the age of 8-12 make a egocentric approach .

As for the conclusion , the behavioral and cognitive analyses can be resulted by the affect of the environment. The emotional reaction is one of the source on the activity experiences give the data in the cognitive map , then the relation between the three framework and frequency of areas in the cognitive maps and frequency of behaviour indicate that the children’s behaviour and cognitive maps are mostly affected by non-spatial variables about the environment and the children’s individual characteristics.

4)    Summary on The Relationship Between Park Characteristics And Human Social Behavior

This article were mainly a study on human social behavior with park characteristics in Main Street Garden Park in Dallas. The methods that have been used in this research is passive observation , in-depth interview , the informants and interview question . The design characteristic has been taken down are sitting space , trees , food concession ,pathways and defined spaces triangulation and relationship of the street .

According to data from the behavior mapping analysis on a sunny day people chose to do outdoor activity at the park in the weekend with the highest number of male adult follows by female adult and children .

With the best number of female visitor it can be conclude that they feel safe and comfort on that morning to evening as it was regularly patrolled by the park rangers to check on the female visitor which then leads the sense of welcoming and extra safety in an open space .

Next , the visitor chose to have their own favorite entrance at the fountain and be at the edge of the park same with the children that have their best playground which they found most attractive amongst all other hence their parent will be at the nearest sitting area  .

A great social interaction can be seen at the seating area under the trees which facing the central lawn just passively having their time . Some people choose to be at the edge of the park where they can find calmness and privacy at open spaces .

Some of the visitor coming along with their pet to walk together . It was found that there are more people coming to the park to spend time with group of people rather than individual or individual with pets.

The most functional and effective elements at the park are the fountain , urban dog run , playground, food concessions , sitting space and relationship to the surrounding according to the visitor perception and their emotional reaction about the park . Many of them are more likely to be at west edge of the park, which includes the fountain, urban dog run, playground, food concession, and sitting spaces.

So to get deeper , the fountain give them a pleasant view , sound and best experience  because it make them chill and as an opportunity for their children play by the fountain and also for whom like to read and write .

Next , is the urban dog run visitor enjoys it as the pets does and like to watch the dog and children play with the dog hence making them to socialize with other visitor .

Then , the playground which is one of the primary attraction in the park as it give the children a great place to spend their time and get socialize with other with the supervision by their parents who can be at the nearby seating area having another social interaction with other parents  .

Next is the food concession , the visitor claim that it make the feel relax and just enjoy watching others and also having social interaction with other and suitable for gathering area . The Sitting Space or seating area does a great job on making people to have human interaction with the other visitor .

Last but not least , the relationship to surrounding , there are many point  to enter and exit the park and the surrounding roads does not affect the human interaction so it keeping them together at the park .

As a conclusion , the space design element are important to make sure that the visitor enjoy every corner of the park and all of the facilities function as its supposed to be  . Lastly it make the city become a sustainable city .
