From the article ‘Newly Innovated Machine To
Be Used To Clean lakes’ in the city of Kuala Lumpur from The Star Online

The article were focused on issue of overgrown
of the Hydrilla verticillata weed on
every lake garden around the city of Kuala Lumpur and Permaisuri Lake Garden
were also stated in the zone other than Titiwangsa Lake Garden , Kepong
Metropolitan Park and Batu Metropolitan Park
. A weed cutting machine also known as weed buster has been innovated to
cut off the weed on the lake . As it has been so many complain by the visitors
, City Hall’s Landscape and Recreational
Department take a huge step into intervention in order serve a nice park
to visitors. The weed has been identified as one of the factor that destroy the
ecosystem in the lake , spread the bad odour . But on the other side , it was
found that the weed can be useful to fertilize the trees as it will be a good
compost fertilizer because of content of
Nitrogen .
The
main issue from this article is the overgrown of weed on the lake . The weed can grow up to 30ft below the water
surface hence disrupt the activity of fishing and boat rides, kayaking and
water polo and these weed also threatening the fishes and the ecosystem in the
lake and the bad odour of this weed giving a hard time to visitor .
The problem finally meet the ultimate long
term solution . Since it was hard to maintain the lake using manpower which is
highly cost on budget , a weed
cutting machine were launch by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to solve the
issues that have been reported by the visitor which find that the weed
has been a major problem to water activity . According to Mayor Datuk
Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib “This machine
will soon replace the conventional way of cutting weeds where a contractor has to manually cut the weeds with a cutting pole .
The manual way is inefficient and time consuming” . This mean that the weed
cutting machine will replace the manual way which the machine will be more
efficient over the old way and will no longer costly . Other than that , the
weed cutting machine also can scoop up the floating debris after the cutting
session operated .
After all , water elements and plant species
in lakes plays an important role for public park for the development of the
park as to ensure the ecosystem that exist stay in a good condition and did not
affected the activity of the visitor on the park .
